The area around Lake St. Lucia north to the Mozambican border is host to many species of birds, especially in the summer months (October to March) when migratory species from northern areas of Africa make this their home.

Lake St. Lucia, Mkuze and Ndumo Game Reserves all boast bird lists nearing 460 species, so there is plenty to see! St. Lucia is also part of the popular Zululand Birding Route.
